Diagnosis and Treatment

How is Alzheimer’s Disease Diagnosed?

There is no single test that can show whether a person has Alzheimer's. Physicians can usually determine if a person has dementia, but it may be difficult to determine the cause.

Evaluation for Alzheimer’s include:

  • Review of Medical History
  • Mental Status Testing
  • Physical and Neurological Exam
  • Blood tests and Brain Imaging Scans

While there is no cure for Alzheimer's, drug and non-drug therapies may help treat disease symptoms. Researchers are currently working on new treatments to alter the course of the disease and improve the quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s.
